KC Royals Caravan

The Kansas City Royals came to town in the middle of winter, so Andrew and I went to Heroes Sports Bar to see the boys of summer and get some autographs. The place was packed so we just found an out of the way place to stand until the players arrived. We were lucky because the guys from KFH had the line start right where we were standing. There was only one guy in front of us. I don't know if it was because we were standing in a convenient place or it it was because I used to work with the guys at the radio station. Either way, we did good and got out of there in decent time for Andrew to get his homework done. Here's Andrew with a few players, and a couple of legends.

Former Wichita Wrangler and current Kansas City Royal, Billy Butler, apparently looking at the cute waitress behind me.

The man who can jump over a car, Kansas City Royal Outfielder, Joey Gathright.

One of our favorite players, David DeJesus. He gave us tickets to a Royals game several years ago when we were at Worlds of Fun.

We were impressed with how friendly legendary pitcher Dennis Leonard was. He was very kind to Andrew and he made a huge impression on me. What a nice guy. Baseball needs more like him.

I didn't notice Andrew's eyes were closed until I got home but here's the picture anyway. Fred White, TV announcer for the Kansas City Royals, although busy talking to someone else, was more than happy to take time to let us snap a picture with Andrew. He told us that Andrew was the best looking guy in the photo. Another nice guy. We hope they come around next year so we can do it again.

Oklahoma State University

We made several trips to Stillwater this season to see Kurt's OSU Cowgirls play some ball. We always enjoy making the trip. One day this year, we took Andrew's friend, Caleb, with us. He comes from a family of huge K-State fans but they were good sports and let us take him along, and they even let us throw an orange shirt on him. After all, this was the OSU - KSU game. Where we sit, there are no purple shirts allowed. That might get Kurt in trouble. Here are a few snapshots from the OSU campus about an hour before K-State beat us. Thanks, Caleb.

This is a shot of us with the young group.

The same group...the same line-up.

Sara's sister, Michelle (Micky), was there with her husband, Kurt, and a couple of their friends. This is shot of us with the "old" group.

OSU fans? Or Barack Obama supporters?

Sara, Micky and Mary making the OSU sign. It took Micky a couple of tries to figure out which way the "S" should be. Go Cowgirls!

Keeper of the Plains

Sara and I enjoyed lunch on a spring-like day by the Keeper of the Plains. We had never been there before. Outside of the wind, which made it a little cool, it was a beautiful day. The sky was so blue...it was perfect. Not a cloud in the sky. It made for a nice backdrop for the statue and the bridge you have to cross to get to it. I didn't have our camera but I had my cell phone. Surprisingly, it did a pretty good job. Here are the pictures I took.
This is a view of the top of one side of the bridge while standing on the elevated walkway.

This is about as close as you can get to the statue without climbing the rocks. I'm glad he's wearing pants.

Taken from behind the Keeper's pedestal, this is the bridge leading out if you're heading North. What caught my eye here was the way the tree was framed by the bridge structure.

This was on the way back to the car, heading South. This was the only place I could take this picture without the Sun blinding me. I like the lensflare effect it creates. These shots aren't bad for a cell phone!
